IN THE PICTURE - Pierre-Marie Bernard

Surrounded by a mother who adored jewellery and a grandfather who was a watchmaker,  Pierre-Marie Bernard was immersed in the world of adornment from a young age. As a teenager, he was fascinated by the lively atmosphere of the workshop, the multitude of tools, and the hands-on approach to designing jewellery. He joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Joaillerie school in 1976, which is now the Haute-École de Joaillerie located on Rue du Louvre in Paris. He graduated in 1979.

For eight years, Pierre-Marie Bernard worked in several workshops at Place Vendôme, where he enriched his craftsmanship and deepened his understanding of the profession by mastering the technique. He decided to focus on custom-made jewellery for private clients while continuing to work for prestigious jewellery houses such as Boucheron, Hermès, and Mouawad. He opened his own workshop on December 1st, 1987, the Feast of Saint Eloi. At the same time, aware of the importance of passing on know-how, Pierre-Marie Bernard became a teacher at the Haute-École de Joaillerie.

He became actively involved in defending French artisanal craftsmanship. He was appointed as an administrator of Francéclat and chaired the creation/innovation commission from 2005 to 2018. Throughout his career, Pierre-Marie Bernard has given numerous lectures on the jewellery trade and has contributed to the creation of several books in this field.

Last but not least, in 2022, he was named Chevalier in the Order of the Palmes Académiques, a high honour that recognizes and celebrates his career dedicated to Jewellery and the defence of French artisanal craftsmanship.
